o   Whatever happened disrupted weather

o   Large amount of ash à can’t see the sun

·         Did the woman kill herself or is she somehow still alive?

·         What happened to the world? Why is there ash everywhere?

·         Why did the wife have a child if she knew the consequences?

·         Why would the wife want to kill the boy?

o   As a mother she does not want him to live that way

o   She knows the man won’t keep living for himself but he will keep living for the boy

·         What happened to the third bullet

o   Some kind of attack

o   She used obsidian to kill herself

WHAT WE KNOW:

·         The woman did not shoot herself

·         The world is full of destruction

·         Journey à south – goal (to a warm place)

·         Survival

·         People aren’t helping others

o   The man didn’t want to help the lightning-struck man but the boy did

Literature Circle 3: pages 70-100

Tuesday, Sept 8

Class chat pages 100-150

-What happened? Are there others like them?

-Parenting: the man is protecting the son from harm/horror

-Wondering about apples. It has been several years since the incident, and maybe the ash preserved the apples.

-What the man has done to help them survive: had them eat snow, avoiding others, being resourceful with what they already have. Did he know all this stuff beforehand, or is he learning stuff as he goes along? None of what he's doing is worth doing, but he does it because of the boy.

QUESTIONS:

1. What state are they in? Where are they located? Are they getting closer to the warmth? Rural?

2. WHAT HAPPENED TO THE WORLD?!
